Quartiere Coppedè Walking Tour (Self Guided), Rome

Rome has given the world some of its most beautiful architecture, including many historic buildings that have survived the centuries. Quartiere Coppedé in the Trieste district is an intoxicating and eclectic blend of buildings showcasing designs and styles from several ages and civilizations. Ancient Rome, ancient Greece, Roman Baroque, Manieristic, Medieval and Art Nouveau are all represented here.

Whether or not you are a student of architecture, you cannot fail to be blown away by the incredible buildings. This fantasy district was a product of the free flowing imagination of the Italian architect and sculptor Gino Coppedè who created this complex of buildings in the first half of the 20th century. Among the many features to be admired are Moorish arches, Tuscan turrets, Gothic gargoyles, frescoed façades, iron chandeliers, sculptures, fountains and castle-like structures.

There are also attractive palm-fringed gardens. Part of the fun of coming here is to see how many different architectural styles you can spot. There is something attention grabbing at every turn. Some visitors come back to the area time and again, and every time they do, they see something different.
