1. Mobile Devices
To run a GPSmyCity app you need any of the following gadgets:
iPhones or iPads. They must be running an iOS that is within two versions of the latest iOS version. For example, if the latest iOS is 18. Your iPhone or iPad must run iOS 18, 17, or 16. iPad must be cellular+wifi models. Note: the cheaper wifi-Only iPad models are NOT good, as they don't have built-in GPS hardware so that the GPS functions won't work properly.
Android Phones and Tablets. They must run an Android that is within three versions of the latest Android version. For example, if the latest Android is 15. Your Android phone or tablet must run Android 15, 14, 13, or 12.
The Android devices come in a variety of prices and GPS support. If you are not a techie and don't know how to interpret hardware specifications, apply the below rule of thumb to figure out if a suitable for the GPSmyCity app based on its price tag:
2. Optional Devices
External Battery (Power Bank). Using a phone or tablet to navigate a city drains its battery faster than usual. It is therefore recommended to have an external battery at hand, just in case. Otherwise, you may be stressed to have a low battery when you need a device to find a way back to your hotel. Fortunately, these days, external batteries are compact and inexpensive. We recommend the ones with at least 10,000 mAh capacity.
Charging Plug and Cable. If no external battery is available, make sure to carry a charging plug. In a time of need, you may simply stop by a cafe to recharge your battery while enjoying a cup of coffee.
