Old Town Shopping Walk (Self Guided), Brasov

The Old Town of Brasov has a number of excellent shopping streets with lots of choices. From luxury goods and souvenirs, to specialty stores and designer boutiques, you can easily spend several hours browsing the shops. The main shopping street is the pedestrianized Republicii Street, and it is filled with a variety of shops selling clothes, books, souvenirs and art. Muresenilor Street also presents a smorgasbord of shops, including clothes, antiques and art offerings. A gleaming shopping jewel in the area is the Galeria Corona, home to many exclusive and expensive Romanian designer boutiques.

During your shopping trip in the Old Town, take some time to appreciate the beauty of your surroundings. Wander through Council Square in the heart of old medieval Brasov. The public plaza features beautiful red-roofed merchant houses and other iconic buildings of interest. In the center of the square is the 15th-century Old Town Hall, a fascinating structure with a Baroque façade and a 58-meter high tower. Today, it is home to Brasov's History Museum. In the southeast corner of the square is the Black Church, a large Gothic building that dates back to the late 14th century. Step inside to view the sculptures of numerous religious figures, the large pipe organ and the collection of carpets that are several hundred years old.
