Bornheim Walk (Self Guided), Frankfurt
Up until about 120 years ago Bornheim was the red-light district of Frankfurt. This accounts for its nickname, which is Das lustige Dorf ("The merry village"). Although that reputation has long faded into history, the area is still known as a place to come and have a good time, although for very different reasons. There’s fun, excitement and relaxation in the bars, restaurants, cafés and cinemas. This neighborhood is particularly popular with the young crowd.
The main street of Bornheim is Berger Straße, a cosmopolitan boulevard where you can watch a movie and drink cider in a traditional cider house. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, go shopping for fresh produce in the Bornheim Farmer's Market on the square am Uhrtürmchen. At dusk, the neighborhood is a lovely sight when the glow of flickering candles and lanterns on tables can be seen through restaurant windows.
In the spring and autumn, thousands flock here for the Dippemess, the largest funfair of its kind in the region. There is a large Ferris wheel, rollercoasters, shooting galleries and lots of thrilling rides. Let the inner child in you have a fabulous time on its many attractions. During your visit, check out Holy Cross Church which charms with its modernist architecture.
