Madrid’s Avenue of Art is home to Madrid’s 3 top art museums: Museo del Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Museum. The three museums are within short walking distance down the regal green, Paseo del Prado, which is known as the “Golden Triangle of Art.” Each museum has a unique feel, so look them up beforehand and see which matches your taste. If you’re feeling ambitious, give them all a try. Are paintings just a bunch of brush strokes on canvas to you? Give the Picasso’s Guernica at the Reina Sofia a go. I’m not an artsy person, but even I found this piece extremely moving. Hey it’s raining, why not!

What better way to spend a rainy day than eating and drinking with friends? Thankfully, Madrid is home to several “weatherproof” markets. When the weather’s not ideal for roaming outside, simply move the crawl indoors. Instead of sloshing around from restaurant to restaurant, choose one of these covered areas: Madrid’s famous central Mercado San Miguel, Chuecca’s beloved Mercado San Anton, Fuencarrel’s alternative Mercado de San Ildefonso, Barrio Salamanca’s upscale Platea and Malasaña’s new and improved Mercado Barceló.
